Autoimmune Disease Atlanta, GA

Managing Your Autoimmune Disease

Autoimmune Disease can be very debilitating to people. Your immune system starts to attack your body and its tissues instead of attacking toxins and invaders. As a result, your joints, muscles, hair, skin, gut, and brain can be severely affected. There are many different types of autoimmune disease like thyroid disease, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, lupus, IBS, Multiple Sclerosis, psoriasis, and over 80 more! Conventional medicine understands that there is a problem, however, no type of extensive treatment has been investigated except for immune suppressant drugs.

In functional medicine, we believe that all autoimmune disease stems from the gut. This can be due to years and years of infection in your gut by taking antibiotics or damaging the gut lining by eating processed foods, taking medications, or anti-inflammatory drugs. We want to know what exactly is going on in your body for this to be happening, as well as what is causing this to happen. Usually one autoimmune disease can turn into multiple autoimmune diseases because of continuous and consistent damage to tissues and the gut.

Functional Medicine & Autoimmune Disease

Autoimmune disease is at an all-time high in this country and all over the world! The amount of toxins humans these days are exposed to every day plays a significant impact on autoimmune disease. These toxins include mold exposure, heavy metal exposure, steroids, processed foods (high fructose corn syrup, genetically modified foods like gluten, soy, corn, sugar, etc.), pollutants, and many more.

We start off by healing a patient’s gut. This is the most important step in helping treat your autoimmune condition. We put you on a specific gut healing protocol along with specific dietary changes to help heal your gut lining to prevent future infections from starting. Gut supplements and powders are very important in this stage to decrease inflammation and provide important vitamins and nutrients you are depleted of.

We will do a comprehensive and extensive stool, autoimmune, and micronutrient testing. By testing for all of your deficiencies, we can better put you on a more personalized plan based off of your history, symptoms, and labs. Check our page on types of testing we offer!
