New Patient Visit

Appointment Overview and Pricing

First visit appointments for new patients typically last 90-105 minutes depending on history and conditions.  In this time frame, the practitioner will gather an extensive history on the patient, review prior labs, conduct a physical and answer any questions.  Blood will also be drawn during the initial visit, so we ask that new patients fast for at least 8 hours prior to the visit.

Follow up visits will occur after the blood work has been processed and scheduled based on practitioner availability (typically 3-4 weeks after the initial visit) these appointments last ~75 minutes, during which time the practitioner will review and explain lab results and prescribed a customized treatment plan for the patient.  We also like to schedule an additional follow up 4-6 weeks after to recheck blood markers, monitor symptoms and adjust treatment if needed.

Pricing varies between each practitioner and is detailed below.  These prices include only the consult; lab work and supplements are not included. Here is a link to test pricing.

Frequently asked questions:

  1. Do you accept insurance?

Answer: All of our providers are considered out-of-network providers with all insurance companies, and AFM does not file directly with insurance companies for office visits. We will be happy to provide you with the necessary forms you need to file with your insurance company for reimbursement. Because payment is due at the time of service, your insurance company will reimburse you directly. We do utilize insurance for most lab tests offered. For more information, please see our Insurance and Payment page here.

2. What can I expect during my first visit?

Answer: Your new patient appointment will last anywhere from 1.5 – 2 hours in length. Your practitioner will spend time going over your medical history in detail, ask several in-depth questions about your chronological life, perform a detailed head-to-toe physical examination, discuss your specific needs and desires, discuss applicable diagnostic testing needed, and will discuss a potential initial treatment plan moving forward. Diet and lifestyle measures are also often addressed at your initial new patient visit.

3. Does AFM perform diagnostic testing during my initial new patient visit?

Answer: Because every patient is unique, AFM physicians will choose which type of testing you need based on the results of your initial assessment. Sometimes testing can be done during this new patient appointment. If fasting blood work is needed, and you are traveling from out-of-town, please make the staff aware, so we can accommodate your initial new patient visit to include fasting blood work. Our staff will be happy to provide you with these instructions. Please make sure you drink plenty of water prior to your fasting blood draw.
